Planes

My son Jad has discovered the movie Cars and all things Lightning Mcqueen and TowMater. “If I’m lying, I’m crying.” We hear that phrase a lot from Towmater on “Car toons”. When the previews came out for Planes he would make his excitement sounds-”OOH-EEW-EEW” We saw it a few Saturdays ago as a family. He loved the fast action parts but there were times when the planes were conversing that he got bored.

I love that Disney continues to embed life lessons in their films.  (I thought it was a Pixar film, but it is not.)

There is definitely a thread of believing in yourself throughout the movie.

-Dusty is made fun of when he goes to prequalify because he isn’t the typical racing plane.

Dusty was definitely the underdog. Most of us like watching movies like Rudy, where the main character is victorious even when the odds are not in his favor.

Sportsmanship, Humility, and Teamwork

Dusty helped the British plane land without crashing. It was a competition and he was sacrificing his chance in placing but he did what was right. The British plane was not kind to him before the race and made fun of him because he was a crop duster plane. Dusty still chose to help him.

I love how teamwork was shown when all the planes pull together to fix Dusty.

Ripslinger was a great villain.

I love the Spanish plane and his great pick up lines. My favorite one was “Are you tired because you have been flying through my mind.”

I also loved seeing India and the Indian plane. My niece whom we hope to meet in a few months is sitting in an orphanage. Ella was able to see and connect to that part of the movie.

The relationship between the older plane and Dusty reminded me a lot of Doc Hudson and Lightning Mcqueen in Cars.

The final message that I felt like Pixar embedded well was this….”You can be known by other things.” You don’t always have to be a _________(fill in the blank). (For Dusty it was a crop duster)
